MABO, Indonesia.- The first hurdle has bee already surmounted in the quest of open water swimmer Marcos Diaz, who last night linked the Australian mainland with Asia, in the United Nations project Swim Across the Continents.

After some situations which kept him from making the swim on the goal date of May 13, the Dominican champion finally began the first leg of his historic swim at 7:55 a.m. on Thursday.

Diaz swam a distance of 19.7 kilometers in 4 hours, 11 minutes and 38 seconds, setting off from Wutung Village in Papua New Guinea to the community Mabo in Indonesia.

What he is doing is incredible. Too bad it doesn't seem to be getting a lot of mainstream coverage.

C'mon swim for a better world.....yet the world doesn't know or care. He was better off swimming for the better of the Dominican Children.

Regardless of what many may think....I'm super proud of him for restoring Dominican National pride.

What a strange story !!!!!!!! firstly Wutung Village in Papua is miles and miles away from Australia and the Mabo in Indonesia is even further from mainland Asia ..the 19.7 kilometres is less than !% of the distance between Australia and mainland Asia --Just like saying he swam from south America to North America when in fact he only went from Jamaica to the Dominican Republic ...but a nice long swim regardless of the geography errors .

Ricardito.. the swim was from Papua New Guinea to Indonesia.. connecting the Pacific or Oceania continent with Asia.. in Spanish the Oceania Continent is sometime referred to as Australia.. that doesnt mean he swam from the country Australia to Indonesia.. it was a mistake done by the writer...
