Santo Domingo.– The football World Cup 2010 can be seen on local TV from 11 June to 11 July. Three games will be transmitted daily on Telecentro, Channel 13 and RNN.

The matches will be on real time at 7:30 am, 10 am and 2 pm, with summaries transmitted in the evening. The opening ceremony on 10 June and the closing will be also broadcast live.

On related news, for the first time, Cuban television is set to broadcast live all the matches of the upcoming World Cup, even though Cuba did not qualify, the official daily Granma said on Friday.

“Although the football World Cup has been broadcast fully in Cuba since 1994, this will be the first time that every match is broadcast live. Something which will, by the way, be available for very few nations,” the daily said.

These editors need to seriously edit this article. It's not FOOTBALL, its SOCCER!!!!!!! They confused it with the Spanish word, which is futbol.

now here's the real story http://www.soccer-fans-info.com/origin-of-the-word-soccer.html
Origin of the Word Soccer
It's often mistakenly thought that the United States are the only country that uses the term soccer for what is traditionally known as football in Europe, Asia and other parts of the World. However, the new name was adopted by other countries, specifically those that associated football to a different sport prior to soccer being popular. Such countries include Australia, Canada, New Zealand and some parts of Ireland.

The real name is football, but americans with their new sport took the same name..

Even here in Montreal, people are thinking about removing the word soccer using "Foot" like the french.

The correct name is FOOTball ,the so called football in the US and Canada has a real name which is gridiron .How can a sport in which almost no kicking is done be FOOTball?

Football (Grandfather)
Rugby (Son)
Gridiron (Grandson)

The 2010 World cup favourites ,Brazil,Spain,Holland but there are always some surprises although in all the history of the world cup it is a Euro-South American tournament .I hope some day DR can at least field a decent team.!

South African World Cup Mugging Season Set to Begin
"Goa-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-l!"
JOHANNESBURG - South Africa - Armed robbers, carjackers, muggers and an assortment of generally nasty sorts are gearing up for a major influx of rich football supporters to relinquish them of their money, a township elder has revealed.
"We're gearing up for our own kind of world cup. The only balls that will be involved however will be the rich football supporters who we will kick very hard between their legs so we can extract their wallet," Jimbo Mobutu, a Soweto resident who is getting ready for some serious mugging action this summer.
With the influx of rich football fans, armed carjackers are set to have a field day on the unsuspecting football tourists.
"It's going to be like Christmas all over again. As soon as they come off the planes we will be onto them like a bluebottle fly gets onto a steaming dog turd," Mr Mobutu added." Yes we will be all over them like a cheap suit " "Goa-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-l!"

I agree. Except be careful with Argentina, they may be playing possum.
Tell me something Pepe32. Is it true that up until 1970, DR had a small opening in Football, and that this opening or early development was squashed by the incompetent decisions of the secretary of recreations or sports at the time?

Frankly Atabey I am not well versed in the past of the sport in DR except on a personal level...My father like many of his family brought the sport with him so there were isolated areas with football (Soccer) including Moca,Santiago and Santo Domingo and of course the Haitians in DR also play .

I believe it is only recently that serious interest is being given ,especially with the donations from FIFA to promote the sport.
