MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico.- The Dominican athletes yesterday added 11 more medals and surpassed the Dominican Olympic Committee’s expectations of 105 as in the previous Games in Cartagena, Colombia, in the 10th day of XXI Central American and Caribbean Games

On Tuesday Olympic gold medalist Felix Sanchez returned to competition and the baseball team secured a ticket to play for the title.

The Dominicans added one gold metal with the boxer Gabriel Garcia, four of silver and six of bronze, remaining in a close fight for fourth place on the medal board with the host Puerto Rico.

DR is staying close to PR but PR has a serious boxing advantage that may well secure it the 4th place position in these Mayaguez Games 2010. 8 boxers from PR will be seeking Gold Metals, while only 2 from DR will. So even in the event that our two boys win, and one goes against a boxer from PR, that would only gain us two Gold metals; PR would easily gain ground by taking 4 of 7 Gold metals. And remember, because PR holds a big advantage in Silver metals versus DR, the Gold Metal count is the only count that matters in determining positioning.
