On September 22 the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) will host its 1st Annual Golf Tournament in the picturesque grounds of Saint Andrew's Golf Club, built 1888 and America's oldest, in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
The benefit will help support the numerous projects and programs realized by the Foundation, which seek to foster social, economic and democratic development in the Dominican Republic. GFDD is a private, 501©3, US registered non-for-profit, non-partisan organization. The institution conducts research and analysis, organizes educational and professional training programs, and provides opportunities for professional and academic exchange for Dominicans in the Dominican Republic and for the Diaspora, in areas critical to the advancement and modernization of the Dominican Republic.
The 2010 GFDD Golf Tournament will follow in the tradition of COPA FUNGLODE, the annual fundraising event of GFDD's sister institution in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE). Like COPA FUNGLODE in the Dominican Republic, The GFDD Golf Tournament will provide opportunities to network with high-ranking officials, business executives, industry leaders and celebrities. Major League Baseball Legend, Juan Marichal, will be amongst the esteemed celebrities attending.\
Registered guests will compete with internationally ranked golfers on the lush greens of the historic Saint Andrew's Golf Club. Golfers will play on a challenging par-71 golf course, redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 1983. The Club has been the site of many golf firsts, including the celebration of the first 100 years of golf in the United States, which assembled golf greats like Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus, in 1988, and the 1995 "Founders Cup."
