NEW YORK.- The slugger Alex Rodriguez blasted his 600th career home run today, exactly three years after belting out his 500th, off Kansas City righthander Kyle Davies

Born in the US, the Yankees 3rd baseman joins the also Dominican Sammy Sosa in the exclusive club, after looking for the roundtripper on 17 at bats.

The milestone homer came against Toronto Blue Jays righthander Shaun Marcum, making him only the seventh player in major league history to reach the milestone.

Rodriguez, who turned 35 on Tuesday, is the youngest player in Major League history to join the club, though Babe Ruth needed fewer games.

13. Doctor murdered near Botanical Gardens
Dr Sergio Rafael Rojas Soriano, who had gone out early for his morning run outside the Santo Domingo Botanical Gardens, and near the back entrance to the Pedro Henriquez Urena University has been murdered. According to reports, four men on two motorcycles are suspects in the murder. Witnesses have identified the murderers. The forensic study said he died of two bullet wounds. The 52-year old physician who worked at the UCE Medical Center had four children, of which the two eldest were traveling in the US with their mother.
The reasons for the murder are unknown, but robbery is not suspected because his BlackBerry, UASD graduate ring, watch, wallet and ID documents were not taken.

blu,
Lets not forget what Sosa did for MLB after the ump strike! Sosa put MLB on his shoulders and brought the fans back...

Let's also not forget Mark McGwire who ultimately won that home run title race. Ultimately I remember these guys a little differently than you do X-man, while I admit they were responsible for bringing back the fans, I also recognize them as the harbingers of the P.E.D. cheater movement who ultimately did far more harm to the game than good. It's no coincidence that these guys and Sosa especially for whom drug cheating was not enough so he also drugged his bat are considered "DISGRACED" FORMER MLB PLAYERS. In their case the end did not justify the means.

dev,
I agree they cheated but so did the majority of players. I belive that pitchers used alot of it to repair injuries faster. But look at how low the homerun numbers are... People love to see homeruns and baseball is becoming a snooze... As the NBA, NFL, and NHL ratings continue to rise, MLB better make a change in order to get more homeruns...

Remember, the 2010 allstar game had the lowest ratings ever... I love baseball but after seeing guys have monster homerun seasons, its just not the same.

Mcguire was great too, glad to see him back in the game. Juice or no juice, it still takes great skills to make those numbers. Pitchers were trying to stike these guys out all the time...

X-man,
You don't know that that the majority of the players also cheated, you have zero proof to quantify that statement. That is just your biased opinion to help augment the validity of your favored player, who is a proven (fact not opinion) cheater. If MLB is interested in providing higher scoring then it should change the maximum dimensions or enhance the ball and other equipment. What should not be considered is circumventing the laws to allow any athletes to gain an unfair advantage against their peers by cheating.

Mlb might need smaller parks to get the numers back up... We will see how well the MLB world series ratings do this year... I doubt that it will pass prior years...

Also, I hope Manny gets traded, he is like a zombie, MLB really needs him to be on a team that will go deep into the playoffs

X-man,
The ratings will be determined by which teams will face each other in the WS. A Yankee vs. LA or SF or Cubs would draw through the roof. Consider that the two representative teams usually have very good pitching so your not going to see football type scores in the WS anyway.

P.S. I think Manny's best is well behind him he has broken down physically quite rapidly, in a short period of time which is consistent with P.E.D. usage.

Mr. GC,

I've heard very nice things about Pujols and I've also heard that he is a very surly and ornery guy, so I guess it depends on who's take you believe. I think there can be no argument about his talent though, he is one if the best right hitters of all time, an absolute freak, he rivals the numbers of known P.E.D. cheaters.

X-man,
Don't be too surprised to see Pujols give the home team a discount, he is a good fit in St. Louis. He is involved in the community and gave the team a good discount when he first signed while he was still arbitration eligible. The St. Louis fans are known to be the best in the game, they never boo or pressure their players, so who knows, maybe he will re-up.

Hey the cards will have to prove that they can win it all again.. If he can win elsewhere he will go. I think the Yanks can get him because they will have to unload a few main guys, but other teams have started to unload for the winter of Albert.

I know he loves that town, but I know he wants to win again... He is a winner and he needs to think about world series... He can still help out his hometown

X-man,
I don't think the Yanks are a good fit because they are committed at first base. Albert in the super hyper NY media will not be good fit for his type of demeanor. I'm curious though, what teams have already unloaded salary in order to bid for Pujols? I know teams that are out of contention have unloaded talent but that's been going on since the inception of the modern game, not to make room for a "possible" off season signing, at least as far as I know.

cubs got rid of lilly and I think that zambrano will be gone next season... His contract is huge...lee might be gone and cubs have money... Seats are expensive at wrigley... I went to about 10 games and just sold some other good seats that I had.

Dodgers look like they will get rid of manny's huge contract

X-man,
So you don't know of any teams that are unloading players to bid for Pujols in the off season. Like I said, the Cubs and other teams that are out of contention have unloaded players to ease payroll since they have no hope of competing in the fall, not to sign Pujols. The Dodgers cannot get rid of Manny's contract, he has two years left and with his recent chronic injuries, who would they rid that contract to? Realistically, there will not be a big frenzy for Pujols because there are only three or so teams that could afford him and you can count the wealthiest teams out since the Yanks and Red Sox are already heavily vested at first and Pujols does not want to DH.

There are heavy rumos about Manny to white sox... I don't know if they are true, but the Dodgers look like they are sick of him already... I think if he goes to a team that has a shot he might wake up...

Man these guys have sick contracts!

Three-HR night moves Rodriguez up charts
August, 14, 2010

With three home runs in Saturday night's win over the Kansas City Royals, Alex Rodriguez continues to climb the leaderboard in several categories.

• Alex Rodriguez has now hit at least 20 HR for 15 consecutive seasons. That ties him with Willie Mays and Barry Bonds for the third longest streak all-time. He trails only Hank Aaron (20 seasons, 1955-74) and Babe Ruth (16 seasons, 1919-1934).

• Rodriguez has feasted off Kansas City pitching throughout his career, and now has 44 homers all-time against the Royals. That total is one short of Jim Thome, whose 45 longballs are the most by any hitter against the Royals.

Written by: Atabey, 15 Aug 2010 12:09 PM
From: United States, NYC

• A-Rod became the fifth player to record multiple 3+ HR regular-season games in a Yankee uniform. Previously, he hit 3 HR against the Angels on April 26, 2005. Lou Gehrig (4) and Joe DiMaggio (3) are the only two Yankees with more than two such games.

• Rodriguez joins Albert Pujols and Aramis Ramirez with four career 3-HR games. The only non-retired player with more is Carlos Delgado (5), who is currently toiling in the minor leagues for the Red Sox.

• If three home runs wasn't enough, Rodriguez also stole third base in the 2nd inning. It was the 63rd time in his career that he recorded a HR and SB in the same game. Only Barry Bonds (102 times) and Rickey Henderson (87) have done it more frequently since 1920.

• This might seem like it's been a down year for the Yankee third baseman, but he's warmed up with the weather. Since summer officially began on June 21, Rodriguez has led the majors with 53 RBI.

Multiple 3-HR games

Posted by Chris Jaffe

Tonight (checks clock) - OK, yesterday (gosh darn insomnia!) I saw Aramis Ramirez of the Cubs hit three homers in one game. It's the fourth time in his career he's done so. Well, so let's look it up: who has hit the most games with three homers (or more - the source I'm using includes four homer games on the list) in one game:

Six games with at least three homers in them

Johnny Mize and Sammy Sosa.

Five games

Carlos Delgado, Mark McGwire, Joe Carter, and Dave Kingman.

Four games

Aramis Ramirez, Albert Pujols, Steve Finley, Barry Bonds, Larry Parrish (!?!?!?), Willie Stargell, Ernie Banks, Ralph Kiner, Babe Ruth (includes post-season, as is the case for the others on this list), and Lou Gehrig.
