Miami.– Albert Pujols picked an unlikely locale to begin his free-agent tour Friday when he was courted in Miami by the Marlins, only hours before they officially changed their name during a ceremony at their new ballpark, the Washington Post reported.

The notoriously thrifty franchise (now the Florida Marlins), suddenly in the mood for a spending spree, declined to disclose details of the contract proposal. Free agents Jose Reyes and left-hander Mark Buehrle also received offers after taking ballpark tours earlier this week, the report said.

The 31-year-old Pujols, a three-time NL MVP, is a free agent for the first time after spending his first 11 major league seasons with St. Louis. Pujols and the Cardinals didn’t discuss a contract extension during the season, which ended with a World Series title.

If the Marlins pick up two out of the three, Pujols and Reyes-but where will Ramirez play?-they become a very dangerous team. The Phillies are still the head of the class with their pitching staff.

Mr. Pujols is the most decent man that you will meet. His wife is also a true lady. Please try to watch the 60 Minutes interview that was recently aired on him.

It will make you proud to be a Dominican and to have such a decent, humble and noble couple representing us in the public limelight.

Wherever he ends up is his choice, but he will be an asset not just a super talented athlete but more importantly as a great human being, which is really what matters when all is said and done.

My guess, based on his character and humility, is that he will take less money and stay in St. Louis.
Wherever he goes and whatever team gets him, they will pay huge money.
Why go to Miami and play in a new yet empty stadium
Big money offer from Angels and Cubs, yet his heart belongs in StL.

One of the coaches on my son's hockey team is from Missouri and he told me, "If Albert goes somewhere else, we'll burn down his house. He has to stay."

I say 220-240 million for 9-10 years.

Josean.
You said it all, sir.
Pujols represent what most Dominicans are all about: Humble, hard working, honest.
He's, along with many others, a great Dominican. Makes me proud to be one, myself.

I hope Pujols stays with the Cardinals. As a Cubs fan its not necessarily the best thing having the best player in the game today playing in the same division but he is perhaps the most humble baseball player I have ever seen along with Pedro Martinez and Vladimir Guerrero and I personally think he should be the Derek Jeter/Mariano Rivera of the national league... In other words someone whom is synonymous with the team he plays for.

As for the Marlins I doubt they are actually making good offers to Reyes, Pujols and Bhuerle at the same time, so I don't take much validity in that. Maybe they can sing Reyes, but I doubt they can take Pujols away from St. Louis even with the great Latin community in south Florida.

All in all though... whatever he decides I will not question it. Some people say he is being greedy for not signing with St. Louis already but the man is being paid 16mil a year which by today's standards is the best deal bar none!
