London.– World soccer’s governing body FIFA said it has opened
ethics proceedings against 16 Caribbean soccer federation officials,
including Felix Ledesma from the Dominican Republic, following an initial probe into cash-for-votes allegations during this
year’s presidential election.
The cases are related to the meeting in Port of Spain, Trinidad and
Tobago, on May 10 and 11 where it was alleged that Qatari soccer
official Mohammed Bin Hammam handed out bribes to Caribbean members of
CONCACAF –the regional body for soccer in North and Central America and
the Caribbean.
Bin Hammam, who was challenging Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency at
the time, has been banned for life by FIFA but has protested his
innocence along with ex-CONCACAF president Jack Warner, of Trinidad, who
resigned before the investigation was completed.
Those under investigation include eight federation presidents, from
British Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, St. Kitts
& Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & Grenadines and US Virgin
Islands.
FIFA said the cases were “apparent violations of the code of ethics” and
the governing body did not rule out opening more cases if fresh
evidence is uncovered. Several Caribbean officials described receiving brown envelopes containing $40,000 in cash.

Despite the DR short history and popularity with the sport (4th in popularity behind Baseball, Basket and Volley, lower if including non-ball related sports such as including boxing, etc) DR is ranked 132 on the world. Haiti is just slightly better at 117 and Futbol is the main sport of Haiti. I appreciate your offering, but maybe 10 years ago it would have been useful.

Yes, you are right, Haiti did got to the WC, it was once (not 2), back in 1974. My statements do not say I am NOT willing to work with Haiti, just that the Haitian Futbol program has gone downhill and I doubt that Haiti could be of any help to DR at this time with Futbol. Within the Caribbean basin, only Jamaica, Trinidad and maybe Cuba, have reputable programs that could help the DR and out of those only Jamaica is on the top 50 rankings.
I am very willing for DR to work with Haiti in aspects where it makes sense. A healthy Haitian nation will benefit the economy and growth of the entire island, so I am pro-Haitian progression and you'll see that my comments throughout this site reflect that. At the same time I an not pro "gimmie gimmie" policies that will simply make Haiti or Haitians a welfare country/people, especially at the expense of the DR. Haiti needs well manage growth that prepares it's people for the future, something that DR itself is struggling with.
