Port-au-Prince.– Jean-Jacques Pierre scored a hat trick for Haiti in a regional World Cup
qualifier, and the Dominican
Republic lost 3-2 to El Salvador, which has been to the World Cup twice.
Haiti thrashed the United States Virgin Islands, 6-0, in Port-au-Prince
with three goals from Pierre, a right back, in a Concacaf second-round
qualifier for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Canada, which last played in the World Cup in Mexico in 1986, beat St
Lucia, 4-1, in Toronto as teams jockey for places in the third round
where Mexico, the United States and Honduras join after receiving
early-round byes.
Canada leads its round-robin qualifying group, ahead of Puerto Rico and
St. Kitts and Nevis, who played to a 0-0 draw on Friday to both collect a
point. St. Lucia sits in last place.
The World Cup in Brazil, involving 32 countries playing 64 matches, will be held from June 12 to July 13, 2014.

I watched the game with a friend in a Salvadorian restaurant and let me tell you they were not happy at all with the results, considering the first half ended 0-0 with a full stadium (35,000) and also that the DR team played with just 10 guys the entire 2nd half of the game and was still able to score 2 goals and not by penalty kicks as one of their goals was against DR. Both teams will play again in October, this time in the DR.
The press in El Salvador was outraged with the final score as it was considered an upset. You have to consider that this is their favorite sport. I told my friend that while in El Salvador the game was front page news, in the DR just 1 local newspaper mentioned the game in a small article and that 99% of Dominicans were not even aware of the game.

Congrats to Haiti.
On another note, the game against El Salvador was a good one, they again played almost the entire game with a one man advantage, even so we were able to tie the game in the 2nd half and did not tie it again by the grace of god, as they were multiple shots that bounced back of the poles, El Salvador won desperately asking for the end of the game on their tip of their toes. The difference in the score was their accounted for penalty kick and the obvious one the referee chose to ignore in our favor. No excuses though, that's all part of the game, but it denotes great improvement by the Dominican team yet much more still to be learned but we're getting there.
