Santo Domingo.– Alexander Reyes, a Dominican pitcher who was born in the United States, was signed by the Cardinals for US$950,000, one of the biggest bonuses of the year for an international amateur pitcher.

Reyes, 18, grew up in New Jersey with his parents Thomas and Dignora, but he moved to Palenque, San Cristobal, in the Dominican Republic, and waited one year to be eligible to sign, Diario Libre reported.

According to the Dominican Prospect League (DPL) founder and president Brian Mejia, Reyes' bonus is the second-biggest of the year for a Dominican pitcher, only behind righthander Juan Carlos Paniagua, who was signed for US$1.5 million by the Cubs.

That wouldn't be enough to pay the NEW PLD TAXES!

Mr Josean, why must anything and everything you write about be politics-related? And how does this report, in any way, links it with the PLD party??

What if your man, Guillermo Moreno, were president today, would it change your view on this fortunate right-step for this young man? Would it have made you stay on topic? What would you have said about him? Eh?

This is why I, and many others in this forum consider you an obsessive-compulsive fool with tunnel vision, lacking in intelligence and unable to comment on anything with originality and substance.
You're likely a decent man, Josean, but your never ending tilt, is a great irritant.

Would you consider saying a few nice words for this young man and baseball, in general?
Are you capable?...I expect an answer.

Born and raised in the US and lived most of his life there - spent one year in the Dominican Republic and now he's a Dominican? Wow, then I must be a Dominican too!

Yes you are, Roy. But you're in denial.

Well...at least he lived here for some time...unlike our gold medal winner who simply took the cash and flew back to San Diego.

I am wondering why...he came back. Was there a financial advantage???

Ah....he simply did this to avoid the draft process. So....spend your entire life ...living your life and playing a sport in another country...come back to visit your grand parents for a year...and you are a Dominican hero!

"Reyes does seem to have found a bit of a loophole in MLB's US draft system as was able to move to the DR for a year and sign with whichever team he wanted and/or whichever team offered him the most money. In this case, everything Reyes did was completely within the rules and the Cardinals are the team that will benefit."

Guy,

This kid couldn't pass HS, consequently, was not eligible for the JUNE DRAFT, or any good college offer.
