Santo Domingo.- The capital’s Quisqueya Stadium has been tidied up and ready to host the opening game of the 54th annual Caribbean Series of baseball today Thursday, with this year’ champions Tigres of Aragua (Venezuela), Indios of Mayaguez (Puerto Rico), Yaquis of Obregon (Mexico) and the local Leones del Escogido.

Close to 100 workers painted, hammered and whished the dust off the 60 year old park’s various areas, and which hosts for the 8th time what has been dubbed the mini world series.

Around 100 local and foreign Wednesday sought accreditation in Quisqueya’s modern press section journalists, to report the games from February 2 to 7, when Santo Domingo becomes the Caribbean’s baseball capital.

xwill7, you should be pleased to know I have been involved in a number of environmental clean-ups in the capital.
How about you?

Have to agree with Roy on this one! He takes many bullets for stating the obvious and deserves a bit of support every once and awhile.

They also need better cameras and better sounds in Dominican baseball. It felt like I was watching a game from 1990.
Also, the camera guys have to do a better job on zomming in and out. They are always zoomed out too far or zoomed in too much.
Also, they have to do a better job on coming in from commercials.
Also, the guy adjusting the scores on the TV channel needs to wake up, sometime the score changes are made too late.
Other than that the game is great!

xwill7, asks me
"How many plastic cervezita cups and bottles do your throw out the window?"
None, but I have picked up literately thousands from our village, and the disgusting beaches of the capital. I still await your answer as to what you have done for the environment of your dear Santiago. Let me guess - nothing?
... and since as you said you couldn't care less about Santo Domingo, maybe some of the rubbish I cleared up was yours? Perhaps I should remember this next time I am in Santiago.

PuntaCanaMike,
Thank you for your statement.
Yes, the things I point out are very obvious, however not to many posters here who not only don't notice, but vigorously deny what it staring them in the face. Perhaps its the Christian upbringing that teaches to believe in what obviously doesn't exist, and ignore what does?

xwill7,

without Santo Domingo, Santiago would be nothing more than a little s%$^t hole.. Sorry, but you guys are copycats, except not very good ones. Once we do something in Santo Domingo, you need to copy it... every name of the streets you copy them. Once Santo Domingo chose a color for the city, Santiago had to copy it.. except that Santiago is super messy, your streets are like a gigantic mess of going nowhere... build streets that actually take people somewhere! You couldn't care less about SD... maybe you should start... Santo Domingo IS the Dominican Republic.. everything else is there to make the country a little bigger. Anything and everything that's important is in Santo Domingo...Santiago is just our dump, where we have all the people that think are something but not really... we have them there...
