Santo Domingo.– Now the charges against outfielder Vladimir Guerrero were apparently dropped, the Arizona Diamondbacks are giving him a tryout, general manager Kevin Towers announced during a television broadcast yesterday.

Towers said Junior Noboa, the team's vice president of Latin scouting and a close friend of Guerrero's, was instrumental in arranging the workout.

The 37-year-old Guerrero, who has 449 career home runs in 16 big-league seasons, has been unable to find a team interested in his services even though he hit .290 with 13 homers and 63 RBIs for the Baltimore Orioles in 2011.

one of the most feared hitters ever... pitchers beware! As a Red Sox fan, I am glad he will be in the National League and not in the American League :-D

Blue Jays Add Vlad

by Eno Sarris - May 10, 2012

The Blue Jays signed 37-year-old Vladimir Guerrero to a minor league deal Thursday. Though the upside may seem muted, it’s a beautiful idea.

First, the cost is minute. Ken Rosenthal suggests that the Jays will pay Guerrero $1.3 million, pro-rated to the amount of time he spends in the majors. Above .500 and just three games out of first isn’t such a big deal in May, but it does suggest the team has a chance to make the postseason at the very least. At the cost of a quarter of a win, there’s no reason not to do this."

Hellborn what are you talking about? The guy is a perrenial .300 hitter with power and an rbi machine. Clutch hitter. Just look back to what he did to the Yanks in 2010. Yeah he chases bad pitches but so did Yogi Berra. Like Berra he has hit some shots off those bad pitches. I'm sure a good percentage of those 449 dingers were off of balls outside the strike zone.
As Yogi Berra would say; " they looked good to me".
