San Juan, Puerto Rico. - Dominican Republic’s team won the crown and the gold medal on Sunday, as the Centrobasket 2012 basketball tournament champion, beating Puerto Rico’s national team at home 80 to 72, and avenging defeat in the last year's event, EFE reports.
A crowd of more than 10,000 fans in the Jose M. Agrelot Coliseo enjoyed the overwhelming performance of the Dominican squad, led by coach John Calipari, of the college basketball national champions Kentucky Wildcats.
Centrobasket’s undefeated squad also showed why they figure among the strongest teams of the three which remain to compete in the qualifier slated for Caracas, to vie for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The have been playing Baseball since the 18th Century, when there was no football, basketball, or soccer.
