New York.– The New York Yankees agreed to sign Dominican right-handed pitcher Manolo Reyes for a US$600,000 deal, but the contract is still contingent upon him passing Major League Baseball's investigation into his age and identity.
According to a report by Ben Badler of Baseball America, Reyes,
22, originally signed with the Atlanta Braves in 2009, but had his
contract terminated and was suspended for a year by Major League Baseball because of issues with his paperwork.
The new deal is still pending MLB’s approval and a visa, which we know can take a while following the Rafael DePaula fiasco. With the deal being agreed to before July 2, the deal will not count toward New York's 2012-2013 international signing bonus pool.
