Santo Domingo.- The country’s more than 30 athletes headed to London sets a record and are expected to boost Dominican Republic’s meager number of Olympic medals.

"We are a country with claws, we have competitors who may be around the level to get medals, but we can’t make forecasts, we have zero forecast," said Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) president Luis Mejia, quoted by AFP.

He said the highest number of local athletes in an Olympic Games has been 25, for which “surprises” can be expected from the 30 headed to London. "We have great opportunities in track & field, weightlifting, women’s volleyball, which is an elite among the world’s eight best, we have opportunities in gymnastics, taekwondo and we can have surprises."

Rubbish. just take Jamaica and Cuba as example. Dominican governments have never been concerned about EDUCATION & SPORT. I live here, in London, UK so I'll see what they'll do. Of cousre, I wouldn't blaim them ( The athletes) and I wish them the best of all but, The'll need better training and discipline in order to perform like our neighbours. see you,bye
