Caracas.- Dominican Republic’s basketball team beat South Korea’s 95 to 85 Tuesday during the Olympic Qualifiers being played in Venezuela for a berth in the London Games.

The Dominican team was led by the scoring of Al Horford with 30 points and Jack Michael Martinez with 16 points and 24 rebounds. NBA player Francisco Garcia also scored 13 points, including a key 3-pointer in the final minutes.

The Dominican team’s dominance of the boards, mostly by Martinez, Horford and Josh Asselin, was the key to the win.

Yes Al is Dominican, his father, Tito Horford was the first Dominican born player to play in the NBA.

Btw.. the team lost against Nigeria on 7/8 and have thus now been disqualified from Olympic contention... wow so close, but it was a great improvement, the DR Basketball team had never gone so far.
