SAN PEDRO, Dominican Republic.- The baseball team formed by players of the RBI San Pedro student programs, sponsored by CEMEX and RBI Santo Domingo, as well as the women RBI Softball team prepare to take in the upcoming RBI World Tournament crown in Minnesota.
The baseball team for youngsters 14-15 years of age has all the potential for the third consecutive victory and regain the championship title won in 2010 and 2011, against U.S. RBI programs. The softball team won the RBI World Series in 2008 and went on to last year’s finals.
The Minnesota Twins will be the tournament’s guests in its 20th this year, and in addition to Dom. Rep., other winners of various regional tournaments will be attending the World Series.
Around 24 teams will compete in the junior (14-15 years) and seniors (16-18 years) Softball categories, with the East, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, West, Central, Southeast and Southwest regions representing the US.
The games will take place in stadiums in the greater ??Minneapolis / St. Pau area, such as Target Field, home of the Twins, and the Minnesota University Stadium.
During the competition the players will be joined by CEMEX Communications adviser Vanessa Read, RBI country program director and national coordinator Oscar Perez, and representatives from the Major League Baseball Office in Dominican Republic.
The RBI program began in the country in 2003 and now has four links in Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macoris, Santiago and Villa Altagracia. There are Current plans to expand programs and provide more opportunities for Dominican youngsters.
CEMEX has sponsored San Pedro’s RBI for eight years and is part of its Social Responsibility Plan, to help young students improve their baseball skills and promote education, with more than 1,200 beneficiaries in that province to date.

The Senior Baseball Championship will be played on Sunday, August 5th and will be shown live on MLB.com. The game will air on MLB Network on Monday, August 6th at 11:30 a.m. EST. The Softball Championship will be played on Sunday, August 12th and taped to air on MLB Network and MLB.com on Friday, August 17th at 12:00 p.m. EST.
