London.- The United States women's volleyball team today qualified for the 2012 London Olympics semifinals by dominating the Dominican Republic in three sets, despite putting up a tough fight, EFE reports.

The Dominican team hustled and handled the ball well, but was overwhelmed by the favorite to win the gold medal, but the tiny Caribbean country concludes its quest for a medal with what has been their best Olympics performance.

The US beat the local in three sets, 25-14, 25-21, and 25-22.

"

Despite tough fight US volleyball stuns Dominican women"

I don't think "Stuns" is the correct term. Team DR was never expected to win against the powerful US squad!

Despite a tough fight, Team US "beats" or "defeats" of "takes out" Team DR in three sets in Women's Volleyball Knockout Round.
