Santo Domingo.– Right-hander Carlos Pimentel, who recently parted ways with the Texas
Rangers, was named the top pitcher in the Dominican winter
league on Monday.
Pimentel, 25, went 5-0 with a 1.67 ERA in 37 2/3 innings during the regular season with Escogido. He led the league in wins. The league’s round-robin playoffs begin on Friday.
Pimentel spent the last seven years in the Rangers’ organization, reaching the Triple-A level for the first time this year. He took minor-league free agency after the season and turned down an offer from the Rangers to sign with the Chicago Cubs.
