HERMOSILLO, Mexico.- After the dust settled from the18 inning battle, the numbers should’ve led to a win for the Dominican team in the Caribbean Baseball Series, but it was the home team, Mexico, which took the crown in a game that seemed endless.

By the 17th inning the Mexican’s numbers were less encouraging: 5 hits, 2 errors and 3 runs, against the Dominicans’ 15 hits, jut one error and 3 runs as well. But just one swing changed the outcome that seemed inevitable.

With the home team advantage, the hosts blasted a solo homer in the bottom of the 18th inning, and that was that.

Rich,

They were promised 15 games of salaries, and the reality was closer to 11. Go figure, as with our government, private companies also want to renegotiate after the fact.

DR led all teams in victories at the Caribbean Series, winning 5 while losing 2. Mexico won 4 games while losing 3. But they won the last game, and that's what counts for the record.

DR had many opportunities to win this last game, and they had beaten Mexico TWICE already in the Series.

Under the old system, DR would be celebrating another Championship.

The better team doesn't always win.

Congrats to Mexico.. it was a tough game for both teams, but the DR had the opportunity to take this many times.. they left so many men on base and could not manufacture runs... now to the big stage, the World Baseball Classic.. I hope there is better luck on that one :-)

Yes, and the competition will be the greatest, as the best teams from around the World will be participating. This Championship was with weaker teams.

But yes, congrats to Mexico.

Atabey ..are you sure of that ,,they played only 6 games and then the final , they had their air fares and all hotel expenses paid for and I bet there were all the side benefits //so tell me how much these guys pocketed for the 7 games ?? I thought most players were on annual contracts so what is the salary for a game ...Even if it is 200,000 pesos at this rich club that means they have pocketed 2.2 million pesos for 11 games and they are still complaining ,,at 100,000 pesos a game it is 1.1 million for several weeks fun.. How about just playing for the country !!

I am glad that they lost. The Aguilas Cibaenas play with pride and would never have been so classless.
