MIAMI.- Pinch hitter Erick Aybar drove in the winning run in the 9th inning to lead unbeaten Dominican Republic over United States 3-1 Thursday night, and advances to the World Baseball Classic semifinals.
Aybar’s one-out single to right with Nelson Cruz on third gave the Dominican’s 2nd run, and clinched the final round qualification in San Francisco. The infielder then scored the third run with a Jose Reyes hit.
United States and Puerto Rico clash for the final spot in the semifinals on Friday.
The game was a classic pitching duel until U.S. closer Craig Kimbrel crumbled in the ninth. Cruz welcomed him with a double, Carlos Santana ?? ground out to the infield advancing the runner, and Aybar batted for Ricardo Nanita to drive him in.
Kimbrel struck out Alejandro De Aza, but Aybar stole second and Reyes’ line drive to right capped the scoreboard.

Baseball doesn't get better than that.
And the RD fans made the game the most entertaining game that I have ever seen.

Should MLB consider putting a team in Santo Domingo?
After watching last nights game and the passion of the Dominican players and fans, it would make great sense, no?

That's the most noise that stadium will experience, until the next WBC of course. Btw, do you know if they allow trumpets into American baseball stadiums?

The WBC should be every year. To hell with emulating the Olympics. This is the REAL World Series.

Wow. I forgot how obnoxious some chopos can be. A great game was almost ruined by some drunk Dominicans with foul language and no woman with view was immune from their disgusting, moronic comments.

Anthony Comemierda quips "some drunk Dominicans with foul language and no woman with view(sic) was immune from their disgusting, moronic comments."
I can go to Hialeah right now, at this very hour, and find your co-ethnics doing the same or worse. As if the Cuban population doesn't have its share of obnoxious cat callers and individuals fond of spirits. So what's your point? Be serious.

Bigoted insults to defend your people's rude behavior?
Well that put me in my place.
No worries. We did what we always do everywhere including in S.D.. Just closed the window to keep the riff raff out.

That'd be great, Walnut, and someday we may have one. Except, as yet, we don't generate the kind of money required to support one here.
The fans are there, but not the money to afford enough of us in the ballpark.
When the DR doubles its GDP, it may be possible. But it may take another ten years, if not more, before even considering having our own franchise.
If so, what would we name it? "The Sharks"? I don't know, what do you think?

It was Robinson Cano (MVP)
