Caracas.– The Dominican Republic defeated Friday Puerto Rico 99 – 84 at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship, making the boricua team taste their first defeat.
Puerto Rico took the first quarter 20 – 15 while Dominican Republic won the second 21 – 20. After the break, Dominican Republic took the remaining two quarters 26 – 23 and 37 – 21 respectively to win the match and hand first defeat to the Puerto Rico in the championship.
With the win, Dominican Republic are now in third spot in standings
with 8 points. Despite the loss Puerto Rico continued to lead the
standings with 9 points. The top four teams qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
