Poland.- Costa Rican Nery Brenes, defending 400-meter champion, and Dominican Luguelin Santos, Olympic runner-up, went on to the semi-finals at the World Athletics indoor track, which began today in Sopot, Poland.

Brenes led the race from the start with Santos right behind, then caught up to and passed the Costa Rican at the finish line.

The Dominican crossed the finish line with 46.54 seconds, followed by Brenes (46.62) and Britain's Nigel Levine, who also qualified with his time of 46.64.

The three will return to the track tonight at 20.15 GMT to fight for a spot in the final on Saturday.

Hats off to a TRUE Dominican who TRAINED here. This is not a 3rd generation American Dominican from San Diego!!!
