Santo Domingo.– The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced the launching of the “Premier12” world championship, a new men's National Team baseball event, to be held in November 2015 in Taiwan with the world's top 12 baseball powerhouses.

According to the WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari, Premier12 will be held every four years and will become baseball's highest-ranked international competition.

The WBSC said it will announce the 12 qualified national teams in November this year, after the final 2014 World Rankings have been calculated. Currently, the U.S., Japan and Cuba are the top three nations in the world baseball ranking. The Dominican Republic is ranked fifth.

So what was wrong with the WBC and the last 3 tournaments?

Wait a second, is DT reporting this accurately.? Is it BASEBALL , or SOFTBALL.? There is a difference, you know. Please clarify this for us, DT.

"" Currently, the U.S., Japan and Cuba are the top three nations in the world baseball ranking. The Dominican Republic is ranked fifth.""

We are fifth.? So, who's number four.? How can we possibly rank that low, when we beat the pants out of everyone we faced in the last world series.? We were undefeated.
Who's in charge of ranking for this tournament.?

I don't understand this rating, honestly Dominican Republic by far is the country that export more baseball player than any other countries in the world. If we take an inside look at the MLB we will find out that the most powerful hitters are Dominican in the major and so is with pitching.

Last year we won the world baseball classic undefeated.

Something is completely wrong with this ranking.

Well we're going to show again to those in charge of the rating that we are the best in this category.

@bernies

The U.S. is number one in this ranking due in large part to the vast number of Dominicans in Major League Baseball. No doubt about that.

Bernies,

The US produces the overwhelming amount of MLB players by far, it is not even comparable, by any statistical methodology. Not to mention the overwhelming majority of leaders in each and every offensive and defensive category. The DR produces the highest amount of MLB players on a PER CAPITA BASIS (no small feat) but in raw numbers there is no need to even consider making any type of comparison.

VERY BRIGHT FUTURE
. When the World Series is over DR should ask themselves a key question: WHY CAN'T we PRODUCE a ORTIZ, a PUJOLS or a MARTINEZ --arguably great baseball players--IN SCIENCE or TECHNOLOGY? Latin America has 560 scientific researchers per one million people, South Korea has 5,450 scientists and researchers per one million people Singapore and India, national media devotes as much to the winners of MATH OLYMPICS as to their biggest SPORTS STARS. this doesn't happen in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC OR LATIN AMERICA. while there are currently 820,000 CHINESE students at U.S. universities, 73,000 South Korea and 28,000 from Vietnam ....only 11,000 from Mexico 6,500 from Brazil Argentina and Colombia good and great soccer players like DR with baseball players. Having more players aboard in science and technology and recruiting them for specific tasks would help Latin America and DR produce a super star in software, or a superstar in ROBOTICS......this wo

Danny. This is one of those rare occasions when I must agree on 100% of all you have sensibly articulated.
The need for science majors is vital to the emergence of a nation. Problem is, we have no world-class universities or qualified personnel to do the magic.
This leaves us with the conundrum of deciding how we can advance our students without having highly accredited teachers which we don't produce ourselves.
The necessary tools do not exist in this country. So, how do we to grow a good crop of minds that can flourish in its own right, and avail themselves for eventual passing on, of this knowledge.?

With the absence of top-notch learning institutions in place, it is next to impossible to birth minds capable of surmounting the vexing challenges we face in securing our place in the world of science.

The only solution seemingly feasible, is the import of elite minds, which are hard to procure and very expensive to have. "A mind is a terrible thing to waste"...indeed.!

so freaking what? Brazil exports more football players to the world than all other countries put together. they have won the World Cup 5 times. yet they are ranked number 7 for this world cup. that is how it works. if you don't like the rankings, start your own ranking service.

the World Baseball Classic is a minor, waste of time tournament which nobody cares about. nobody fields their best teams because of all kinds of contract clauses which prevent them from playing in such tournaments. it is not like the World Cup, where each country puts its best possible players on the field.

""the World Baseball Classic is a minor, waste of time tournament which nobody cares about.""

Nobody cares, Mr. Dread.? I'm surprise you'd say a thing like that. This what the air heads in this forum would surmise.
Understandably, though, a non baseball follower, (like you), would feel this is a boring, trite sport which little significance or interest, and a "waste of time".
Well sir, if this were so, 80 million people, annually, would not attend games in the US, alone.!.. It wouldn't be very popular in Japan, Mexico, and a few other nations, including us.

Contrary to your statement, (the stats will show), the WBC commands a very large following. Certainly not in the numbers or participation as Soccer, but an exciting tournament in its own right.
Generalizing and belittling is the realm of fools. I did not think of you as one.

here is my point, Radar. if baseball ever comes up with an answer to football, where each country puts its best possible team on the field, many people will care. myself included. as i have told Atabey, i have seen Lou Brock, Curt Flood, Rico Carty, you name it, play the game. i do not want to see a Dominican team with two MLB stars and a bunch of guys from Licey playing a bunch of firemen from New Jersey.
Written by: Radar, 7 Jul 2014 10:30 AM

Alright, I see your point. Many world-class baseball players aren't include because of contractual obligations imposed by MLB.. Many DR players and other foreigners are barred from this tournament which cheapens the quality, surely.
Unfortunately, This will always be the case, Team owners want to protect their investment, and who can blame them.?
Still, not all nations limit their players' participation. Cuba, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, and to an extent, DR, go full strength in their quest for gold.
I don't think you'll ever see "a bunch of firemen from New Jersey" playing against some of the best of the best. Sure, it dilutes the quality but not the excitement. Then again, I see what you mean. Football is king. Baseball will never be as popular or so full of nationalistic fervor.

This type of opinions is proof that shows very well how somebody can make and @ss out of himself by giving opinions on stuff he completely IGNORES, there has not been ANY TEAM on baseball history of any of the 28 countries involved on the latest edition that has been superior to the ones that played on that tournament THEREFORE the stupid affirmation of "it is not like the World Cup, where each country puts its best possible players on the field." Is laughable by anyone that knows what a baseball is...

Each country has the BEST POSSIBLE TEAM there already, that is VERY EASY to verify with a thing called ROSTER, so instead of writing stupidity here what you have to do is to PROVE what you say, look for rosters of national teams form whatever point in history that you want, including OLYMPICS and when you have that compare player to player to the rosters presented by all nations on the WBC, meanwhile stop writing nonsense where people that actually can teach you a thing or two on this subject can read it.

Airgordo. The problem with some here is that they love to offer their opinionated blab without the benefit of actual knowledge of the subject at hand. These individuals will present their arguments with no proof of accuracy and blind to their biased stand simply based on a particular dislike.

When anyone says NOBODY likes this or that, or they're ALL the same, it immediately shines out the prejudice borne out of ignorance and undefined aversion.

Lately, we've been listening the experts talk about the USELESS METRO, Dominican rum being inferior--as compared to their preference, and Baseball being a sport "nobody cares about."

Yes, these are all experts in their respective fields, and who are we to doubt them.?

You just proved the point ganja man, MLS is an ESTABLISHED LEAGUE with an established Fan based and tournament that is LOCAL to the city it takes place, that is without even going to the ridiculous attempt to compare football with baseball in terms of popularity ...the VERY simple point was that DESPITE all issues against, that's a substantial amount of people for a thing according to YOUR ignorant mind is somewhat irrelevant.

I see that the "problem" with this subject is that DR is the reigning world champion on this team sport and some of you can't take that for whatever reason, therefore i more than willing to EDUCATE YOU or any other of your fellow pro DR bashing team on this subject anytime needed, i can use tropical fruits as a visual aid if you still can't get it...

The Issue of this clowns is that the DR can not do anything good and by default if we have the best baseball team on the face of the earth they can't accept that, so the answer is to MINIMIZE the WBC.
