Santo Domingo.- As of September, the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) had authorized 5,078,732 cellular phone lines and 903,335 landlines for a total of 5,982,067.

Indotel director José Rafael Vargas said that the total figure is equivalent to 65.5% telephone coverage of the country's population, and that over half the population had a mobile phone. He said that there were 287,163 Internet accounts and 1,646,760 users in the Dominican Republic.

Vargas presented these statistics at an event held at the Dominican Foreign Ministry yesterday.

Well al the young girls they prefer a celluar phone that even a nice room, or go to School.
For a Phone you can take to bed almost any girl, for a Phone you can get kill.
Right now with the IPHONE , is the most important thing going on.And if you have something by Louis Vouiton , or Prada, Chanel or Beneton ...guao..guao....this will be the climax.

Many people they sell themselves for a cell phone.
They love a cell , if is an IPHONE, they can ghange anything boyfriend, gilrfriend.
In my Country anything is posible.
The principles has been ravaged.

Even by the cell phones the people risk their lives. To me two weeks ago, 2 robbers with less than 25 years old threaten me with knives to take my cell and Palm. That is the technological breakthrough in DR.

the cellphone is a status thing among underprivileged and endereducated people all over the world, not just the DR. people who have no hope of elevating themselves out of misery cling to certain symbols for comfort. they cannot afford the jeepeta, but they can afford to buy a cellphone which is just as expensive as anyone elses. the is why you cannot offer an inexpensive cellphone to a chica; she will never accept it. it has to be the most current, with all the bells and whistles. she always has it visible, playing with it 24 hours a day, so everyone will see it. i met this girl who had two motorola razors when they just came out. yet she would always ask to borrow my phone, because she never had any prepaid minutes (or so she said). but she had a phone!!
