SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Telecom Institute (Indotel) created the “Alert Information System," so the Emergency Operations Center (COE) can inform citizens on a situation of catastrophe, using the country’s telephone or broadcast  services.

The measure allows COE to make use of the telecomm systems and networks nationwide to broadcast text or voice messages for services users, to alert of possible emergencies, with the first phase for the general population to begin via radio and television broadcasts.

The second phase consists of inserting information as text advisories in all VHF and UHF television broadcasts, and the cable network systems.
