Santo Domingo.– Orange Dominicana has revealed that scammers are sending SMS messages to users informing them of a EU10,000 or US$10,000 prize.
According to an Orange press release, the scammers also call users and have them listen to a 10-minute recording while their accounts are debited.
Orange says the scam is originating from England but legal actions will be taken against the identified scammers.

THANK YOU ORANGE!!!!!

Indotel should be the ones warning and educating the public not to respond to unsolicited text messages and phone calls. They should also set up a Do Not Call registry as telemarketers and crammers are rising up here.
Telemarketers are moving their operations here and to Jamaica to avoid these restrictions in the US as well.
The DR government has adopted theattitude of "laissez faire" when it comes to those companies who are investing in thecountry.
There are MANY "call centers" which innundate the subscribers daily with all sorts of scamming and fraudulent offers.
While most of these are directed to foreign countries, there are a few who focus on the Dominican Republic's Elite population where the telephone numbers are identified an dare public knowledge.
I'm not sure if Indotel has the capability of preventing such activities within country where the origin is external and targeted towards "Cell phones".
Your suggestion does have merit, however, and I, too, would like to see more government control over such activities as the one identified here.

When I visited, I could not get reception while in the shade of a beautiful palm tree in Plada Dorada, Puerto Plata.
This company is a joke, and where do they chose to do business?
In countries that are easy to exploit.
