SANTO DOMINGO. - Four Government agencies today announced a strategic alliance to develop a "entrepreneurial technology" program, combining efforts and resources to offer short technology courses to more than 5,000 youngsters across the country.
The heads of the Dominican Telecom Institute (Indotel), Jose Rafael Vargas, Las Americas Technological Institute (ITLA), Jose A. Tavárez, and the Professional Technical Training Institute (INFOTEP), Josefina Pimentel made the announcement during a ceremony in the Indotel offices to recognize several youngsters from the hamlet La Yautía and other communities for innovating initiatives to benefit their localities.
Vargas said the goal is to train 5,000 youngsters in two years, with diplomas for technical courses to last six months, in computer maintenance, repair and assembly.

Now this is what I want to see!
I do not want to see "young kids with promise" turned into drug addicts by Tigueres who micro-trafficking in my Santiago barrio.
The above is what I want to see instead! Get it?
I sure as hell hope some of you do (can not expect all to understand because it is not realistic).
But one thing is for sure, the US DEA 40+ agents who have a multi-million dollar budget to operate in the RD out of the Embassy...sure as hell do not understand this concept noted above! For them taking down drug micro-traffickers in the RD while working their way back up to Columbian suppliers AND concurrently working forward to recipients on the US or PR side is a foreign concept (i.e. Advanced Calculus in Manderin Chinese).
WTF? Clueless!

I agree with you about the thrust of this "new" program. but question your comments about he RD-Based DEA Agents here who work out of the Embassy.
Since you evidently live in the USA, how can you make such negative comments about the activities of DEA Agents in the RD?
It has always amazed me that Dominicans ALWAYS manage to place the blame on sources other than themselves for the failurea of their society to properly address those ills that area endemic to that society.
I submit that you have not even a vague idea of the education level of the DEA Agents down here nor what their thinking is about the subject of this article.
You speak as if they hadn't a care in the world other than the job they area here to do.
At least, give them credit for beiing and having sensible feelings for the people of this country, since you obviously don't.
Your commentary is vicoiusly stated and entire inappropriate to the OP.

Well since thats the case we should just close all the school and call it a day. Things like this article will improve education overall. We have to be more positive than that. Maybe instead we should push to make sure they keep this promise and if they don't push DT to put light on this ASAP.
