Santo Domingo.– The country´s main telecom companies got together to create the Directors Council of the Dominican Association of Telecom Companies (Adomtel), aimed at developing and fostering the local telecom market.

According to Héctor Castro Noboa, the Council chief, Adomtel was born due to an iniciative by Codetel, Tricom, Orange y Viva, the four biggest phone companies in the Dominican Republic.

Yoneidi Castillo was designated chief executive and expressed his commitment to the development of the institution.

I hope this is not going down the old price fixing road or we are screwed again......who is watching these guys ? .....Claro is so big they will obviously make the rules ....Carlos Slim does not like to much competition

Wait and see...It does reek of price-fixing. I'm not sure DR has solid anti-trust laws. And I'm less sure if I trust our judicial system if such laws are created.

Reality is that its aimed at finding creative ways to shaft the general public and hide their schemes behind crafty marketing campaigns and gimmicks. Beauty of there union is that there is no one to investigate their true intentions.

Indotel is the one that regulates and supervises telecomunications in the DR. If their (Adomtel) intention is to "fix prices", then people should consider other companies that are not part of this group.
