Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Republic's telecoms regulator Indotel will install two IT training and support centers in Haiti, aiming to support the computer skills and training development of Haitian children and youth.

The two digital rooms will be administered by Haitian telecommunications regulator Conatel or by civil institutions.

Mobilizing the country’s population through a national program to create jobs to rehabilitate the natural and man-made environment and provide employment for Haiti’s youth is necesary.

Haiti has a population of nine million, six million of whom live below the poverty line. One in 12 Haitians will die before their fifth birthday and almost a quarter of the population is malnourished.

This is great news!!!!

What Haiti needs right now is to exchange Funcionarios with the Gov of Leonel Fndz and learn how to embezzle cash from the government without getting a burning truck tire around your neck.

Wonderful!, We still have big problems with the digital gap but we can help them. Great! The “proslavery” Dominican Republic can help Haiti, but we have to think in this too: What are going to do some of those young and healthy Haitians with their new knowledge? They are going to look for a job. Where? In Haiti? Certainly not. They are going to look for a job in the “proslavery” Dominican Republic and as they can work for almost nothing a new Dominican is going to be unemployed. They must use their new skills “in Haiti” or I hope we have enough jobs for them too.

I can say that the two digital rooms will not make much different in their lives. What they will learn is to register in website like Hi5 and MySpace and start surfing the web for fun as many Dominican are using the digital rooms. Indotel should create programs to teach the population computer science and website developing. A programmer can work from any where in the world and get paid using online payment system. PHP, HTML, Flash, AJAX are just a few simple programs that can be taught in order to increase education and job growth. Just refer to GetAFreeLancer.com and see for yourself and companies place job for free lancers to bid on them. Simple things that the DR and Haiti could benefit if we really care.

ZonaDominicana,
If you had no way to travel to USA you would also be on hi5 and myspace. You would be trying to score a date in order to try to get married and get a visa.

This is a good initiative; however, there are about 10,000 NGOs actually functioning in Haiti, and they have invested in info technology in the most remote parts of Haiti. Everywhere you go in Haiti, the Haitian population is being trained in IT. Haitians have time. They are determined, smart and patient. One day, Haiti will be like India, the IT center of the world.

Citizen_of_the_World,

Are all those Dominican girls still chasing you or did they gave up on it. Man what kind of stuff are they selling over there we got Dath talking like god and Citizen_of_the_World, calling Haiti the next India in IT. Did you know that there are almost 2 billion Indians and only 300 million americans and they barely are keeping up with USA in the IT. Before a country becomes a IT powerhouse they have to have all the basics and be able to invest a lot of money into it since is a ever changing profession. I'm a computer programmer and i know what it takes to make it and trust me is not in Haiti and won't be anytime soon not even in DR yet. Haiti first needs the Basics in place and then move on to other stuff but like i always said is up to Haitians to do it by DT stuff like that on DT is no going away. Covering the problems don't make them go away.

Good and positive news in a way, hopefully We don't get backlashes from Haitians saying anything bad about our country and people, don't have anything against Haitians but boy
when They start pushing the wrong buttons along with the ONG'S, Black caucus in the US,
human rights ONG'S and everybody else then I lose my patience.

If Haitians would it look to the big picture they should kiss Dominican Republic values instead
of degrading us like pigs.

We are failing terribly training our people and now we are going train our neighbor?

This is to dump the labor market in telecommunications with cheap labor!!! These damn idiots (Indotel and the entrepreneurs) are trying to empower the Haitian to displace the locals from every job in the Dominican market!

We don't have the resources to behave as the "FATHER" of Haiti! if you touch it, you own it!

belly51,
xwill7,

When I say Haiti could become the IT center of the world like India, I mean Haitians have time, they are intellectually curious. They will sacrifice everything for knowledge and education. Bill Gate is the promoter of IT in third world countries (what we call today developing nations). Among the 10,000 NGOs in Haiti, Bill Gate is supporting a good number of them, particularly the ones that are training Haitian in IT.

To answer your other question, Dominican girls are among the best in the world. Not just Dominican girls are chasing me. I am a magnet for girls around the world because of my look, my intellect, my fortune, my classy approach and my suaveness (LOL).

I give DR a standing ovation for its Indotel initiative in Haiti. A real man has to have the courage to give credit when and where it's due. The Indotel initiative is not going to solve the mountain of problems between the two countries, but it's a giant steps in term of PR and calming tension.

Citizen_of_the_World,

You can turn every Haitian on the island into which ever position with a magic stick and still that won't change the will to fight for what belongs to them which is Haiti. I know some Haitian that are professional and the first thing they say is they will never go back to Haiti and thats the main problem there. I'm sure you know that most rich Haitian don't live in Haiti and they have no plan to do anything for their people and thats the main problem. Look at baseball players in DR when they go up to MLB we expect them to come back and help their country else we will tell them and let them know how we feel about them turning their back on their country. Having rich individuals does not make it a rich country. I would love to see the day when gets off the ground i don't like seeing my neihgtboors like that but I'm Dominican so i fight for Dominican Republic and yes i will extend a helping hand if possible as have INDOTEL in this case.

I think this initiative has potential. Technology has been the great equalizer in other parts of the developing world (i.e India). It could do the same in Haiti.

I agree with you this has a lots of potential when it comes to cooling the fire that exist. Technology have proven to be a equaliser in India whichs good. The thing is that the problem in Haiti goes deeper than that just education i.e. Cuba and DR have proven that the will to get off the ground is bigger than anything else Lets not forget there is 10 million Haitians and that should be enought for the country(econom,y & size) to be doing better than the current conditions. Many Haitians have to unite and die to make it a better place for their kids but nobody want to be the first one killed. Remember War brings peace and thats what Haiti needs to do in order to make it out stable and stronger. More will die invidually than if they unite and fight the problem.

SabioRosa,
We have experienced some crazy times in the past.We have indulged in names callings and insults spitings. You know that
I sincerely believe now that we can put the past behind.
My reflexion in my last post was to challenge all of of us to listen to the voice of reason and and realize that these two nations will either survive together and perish together.
It has taken the Obama s administration ,Hillary and Bill Clinton to summon us to to speak with each other. it will happen this week

Another WASTE of DR taxpayers money. How is this going to stop illegal migration? When will Dominican realize that they are just creating a trap from which they will never be able to escape?
Losers, that's what we are: incapable of making real decisions for a future that present itself as dark as the darkest night. F Leonel and the corrupt PLD.
