SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican Republic’s market will decide the standard to be applied in the transition from analogue radio and TV to digital, Dominican Telecomm Institute (Indotel) president Jose Rafael Vargas said on Tuesday.
He said his agency seeks the mechanism to adopt the format which most benefits the country, and called for consensus on the decision to adopt the new standard. “The main objective of the one adopted is that all Dominicans, wherever they are, can have those services without exclusion and at the lowest possible cost.”
Vargas spoke in the opening o the “International workshop for the implementation digital radio and television in the Dominican Republic,” hosted by Indotel and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (FUNGLODE), in its offices.
The official said it wouldn’t be difficult to adopt a standard, be it the American, European, Brazilian or Chinese, because it will be the market that decides what’s most convenient, which has been the country’s tradition.
