SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican viewers aren’t affected by the “analogue blackout” which began in the United States on Friday, June 12, whereas Dominican TV production companies with broadcasting contracts will have to transmit their programs in digital format to that nation, said the president of the Dominican Telecom Institute (Indotel).
In a statement Jose Rafael Vargas said the airing of Dominican programs to the United States in digital format will be local television’s “only link with American television,” which underwent changes after the analogue format ceased to operate.
“This is the only technological link with which national television undergoes a change so far, as the other local television transmissions continue in the analogue format, as the transition taking place in the United States doesn’t affect the TV program reception in the Dominican Republic,” he said.
