SANTO DOMINGO.- The Armed Forces Ministry yesterday received offers from radar makers who sell air surveillance systems capable of detecting illegal flights which airdrop drugs in the country.

The envelopes from the six companies were opened yesterday by the Bidding Committee, whose content will be disclosed October 20, when the winner will be announced.

In a statement, the Armed Forces said the proposals for the purchase and installation of two air surveillance radar stations and a command and control center, seeks to heighten the war on drug trafficking.

“With these apparatuses we expect not only to reduce the airdrop of drugs to a minimum, but eradicate it completely," said Evaluation Committee coordinator René Valenzuela.

The companies China National Electronics Import, Elta System, Indra, Raytheon, Selex Sistemi Integrati and Lockheed Martin sent offers.

All very good systems, hope they keep the deal above board (no bribes) and the sellers should provide training and support, best done by the American or Italian firms. The Chinese tech support is not so great.

You can have the perfect system and find all the drug dealers and drugs you want but until the people manning the equipment and prosecuting these people are not as corrupt it is a waste of time.
