Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic.- At a cost of 23 million pesos the Rural and Suburban Electrification Unit (UERS) inaugurated two micro-hydroelectric stations near the village Manabao, 20 kilometers west of the mountain town Jarabacoa.

The hydroelectric units will provide power for around 1,500 people, said the head of the UERS, Thelma Eusebio, who headed the inaugural together with officials anhd personalities of Jarabacoa. d

Isolated villages around the towns Jarabacoa, Constanza and San Jose de las Matas have benefited from the installation of the micro-hydroelectric station, which the rushing waters from mountain streams to regenerate electricity at a low cost.

It's good to see the country looking for alternative methods to provides power. Between hydroelectric and the new wind farms that are in the works, the DR is getting a little closer to being able to provide reliable power for it's people
