EL LIMON, Dominican Republic.- The Public Works Ministry and the contractor Odebrecht began the “push” of the new bridge across the Chavon River, the Coral Highway’s most important link spanning eastern La Altagracia and La Romana provinces.

In a statement, Odebrecht said the new 302-meter long bridge implements new technology unbeknownst to Dominican engineering, reducing the project’s completion around 10 months. “This will facilitate the access to the Eastern Zone, a vital part of tourism development and the Dominican economy “

It said the 70 kilometer long highway is around 80% finished, and notes that through Dominican subcontractors, the project provides more than 2,740 direct jobs.

In a recent exclusive interview, Odebrecht country director Marco Cruz affirmed that the project’s inaugural is slated for August.

@Roy

The article says

"implements new technology unbeknownst to Dominican engineering"

So, maybe is old technology, just and/or never used in the DR.

I make this trip every two weeks.

I do not plan to be among the 1000 first vehicles over this bridge.

juanb,
don't worry, the good cardinal will be blessing it before scissor-hands opens it. In this case, the show's not over before the fat lady crosses.

If it is 80% done...why can I only drive on 2% of it?

PuntaCanaMike, asks
"If it is 80% done...why can I only drive on 2% of it?"
Someone probably already has, while attempting to steal some bits to sell as scrap metal.
