Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) conducted a study which revealed that over 50 percent of the 77,000 complaints submitted by users of telecommunications services by October of this year to the User Service Center (CAU) were channeled incorrectly.

According to Indotel, these complaints should have first been submitted to the operators. In view of this, the regulatory body will initiate a comprehensive program of talks in public, private and academic institutions to guide users, in order to reduce such cases.

From January 2002 to 30 September 2013, Indotel received 255,915 complaints or grievances, of which 223,075 were concluded through the CAU, that is, 87.16 percent of cases received were completed.

josean, this is a time I totally agree with your comment.

They, the communication companies get away with their behavior because there is no consumer advocacy on the part of the government to protect against abuse.

There is Indotel, However, it is useless government agency as its internal mechanisms to process consumer complaints can be trying because it does not have the capacity to handle the volume.

Orange and Claro have no technical competence in anything to do with electronics. They lie, cheat and defraud. If there was even one honest and competent provider in the country, it would dominate the entire market in less than 2 years, once word got out. However, that would go completely against all of the usual practices in the Dominican Republic.

Yes, joseano would know about these phone companies, he has a Claro phone set up in his house in Brooklyn.

There's a word for that, demagoguery.

zooma , Lautaro,

As you gentlemen know, not unlike the United States, these so called regulatory agencies, like our Indotel, have an incestuous relationship with the corporations they are supposed to regulate. That is, many of the regulators are former corporate employees or will be future corporate employees.

Therefore they will never do anything to jeopardize the hands that fed them or will feed them again.

Just look at WALL ST and the "one hand washes the other" relationship between "regulators" and the criminal finance industry that has screwed up the world economy.

The telecom. companies in DR is a big rip-off of customers money. Very often, when you call, the ringing sounds, and you heard the pick-up on the other end,,,,, but all of the sudden, the communication is cut off., then you have to pay 1 minute's communication fee.

Do your math to calculate how much money the rip-off are??????
