Latin America must walk into the tech world: former Dominican president

Santo Domingo.– Former Dominican president Leonel Fernandez said in New York that Latin America must walk into the world of technology, in order to generate added value through knowledge and human resources, and not only through products that are cyclical.

Fernandez spoke during a dinner as part of the Hispanic IT Executive Council (HITEC), the premier professional organization for Hispanic technology executives, held in New York City August 6 and 7.

The ex president referred to a report by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which projects a growth of just 1% for Latin America for the coming years, mainly due to the slowdown in the Chinese economy.

Fernandez said the solution to this problem would be to create exchanges of technology and knowledge for the Latino population in the United States, where, as he said, there is a second and third generation of executives and technologists who could bring that knowledge to Latin America through exchange programs.

The HITEC Leadership Summit featured several speakers, panel discussions and presentations on a variety of industry topics, including information technology (IT) diversity, cloud computing and executive leadership.
