Dominican province gets a 30MW, US$60M solar power plant

Monte Plata,Dominican Republic.- The company Soventix cut the ribbon on Wednesday for MontePlata province´s (east) first solar panel plant, which will supply 30megawatts to the national grid in its first stage.

The project built withinvestment from the governments of Taiwan and the Netherlands will start productionin February, whereas its second stage will add another 30 megawatts, making it theregion´s largest photovoltaic plant.

The plant of around 120,000solar panels and 30 MW inverters built at a cost of more than US$60.0 million onover two hectares of land aims to provide clean, sustainable energy, the Energyand Mines Ministry said in a statement.

Energy and Minister deputyminister Ernesto Vilalta hailed the project for its importance and offered thegovernment´s total support for the initiative.

Soventix CEO AlfonsoRodriguez thanked the government for its support of the project via Energy andMines, the Energy Commission, the State-owned electric utility CDEEE and the EnvironmentMinistry.
