SANTO DOMINGO.- The pop star Ricky Martin will appear on Dominican radio and television for the next 6 months to warn people about human trafficking and sexual exploitation, reports the news site PR-inside.com.

Jemini Pandya, of the Geneva-based International Organization for Migration (IOM), said more women are trafficked from the Dominican Republic than from any other country in the Western hemisphere. Her organization is teaming up with the Puerto Rican singer's charitable foundation on the effort.

Starting Wednesday, Martin will be featured in public service announcements for TV and radio as part of the ‘Llama y Vive’ (Call and Live) counter-trafficking campaign that has already done work in other Latin American countries. The ads will publicize a phone line that offers free help and information about trafficking.

“Posters and other informational material will be distributed throughout the Dominican Republic, where, according to the IOM, both men and women have been trafficked for sexual exploitation,” says the report.

The Livin' La Vida Loca singer started the Ricky Martin Foundation a decade ago to help children in need.

The IOM says Dominican victims of trafficking are often taken elsewhere in the Caribbean or to Latin America or Europe. The organization also has documented cases of minors trafficked within the country for sexual exploitation, usually to tourist destinations on the coast.

Look man, there is so much male to male prostitution in your island that maybe you need to focus your attention there. Is surprising to me that Ricky who was born there have not voice his opinion about that terrible issue happening in his own back yard and is know focusing his attention outside his border. Quite sure that our goverment and our population could deal we this issue.

Unfortunately, our government and officials are well aware of this situation and nothing has been done about it. He's not criticizing our situation merely bringing light to the situation and I thank him for it.
