Santo Domingo.– KAT De Luna´s debut album Whine Up is clearly a club favourite. he 19-year-old Dominican-American has quite a unique voice – an African-American meets Latino huskiness that is kittenish sexy to boot.
Featuring the Elephant Man and other infectious dance rhythms such as Run the Show featuring Shaka Dee (love the drumming at the beginning) and In the End, the album peaked at #58 on the US Billboard 200.
The teen queen also shines on Love Me, Leave Me and the progressive Love Confusion, slow numbers that may just skyrocket in the pop charts.
This debut album also features the Spanish version of Whine Up, Am I Dreaming and Run the Show. Proving that she is not another bubblegum pop princess, De Luna has the makings of the next It girl in music.
At the age of 12, Kathleen Emperatriz "Kat" DeLuna (born November 17, 1987 in The Bronx, New York) was invited by the 'Queen of Merengue', Milly Quezada, to sing with her on stage in front of a big crowd of over thousand people. In April 2004, she opened for J Records musician Cassidy as part of the all Latino girl group Coquette.
Kat and her family moved from The Bronx, to the Dominican Republic, where she spent her time listening to Aretha Franklin and realized her potential as a singer. Kat was accepted to the Arts High School in Newark, New Jersey under the vocal instruction of Dr. Jerry Forderhase. She is said to have a 5 octave vocal range, comparable to Mariah Carey and Minnie Riperton.
Kat continued to pursue her dream of becoming a solo artist and at age of 15, she entered a Coca-Cola sponsored karaoke competition. Her version of "I Will Always Love You" won the competition. After the contest, Cuban salsa singer Rey Ruiz advised Kat to start writing her own music.

She is not bad, buunfortunatey she does not have the typical Dominican body that you expect. Her face is not that great either in person at least. I have had the opportunity to meet the group Aventura in person, since the lead is cose friend with my brother. They us to hang out in the 174t street vacinity, lol. Hersongs are very though, specially the one with Wiclef Jean, one of the most famous artist from the caribbean.

Oye Dagtan you are a Haitian in disguised bro. Wyclef is Haitian. Your not Dominican bro, your true colors have been exposed. Wyclef says unite Hispanola on a youtube video he had with Kat, you should try to do the same bro, instead of putting down DR and viewing everything so negatively. Know I understand why you do that, your Haitian! If you are going to talk s*** about DOminicans go do it on another site.

lol @ ny4life, you act like you made some huge discovery. Haven't you realized there are more haitians on this site than Dominicans. As for Kat de Luna, the sons and daughters of the DR are showing their artistic and athletic abilities every day. She is another name to add to the list along with gods like Juan Luis Guerra.

Slowly but surely, Kat Deluna is doing her thing. Representing for all Dominicans and Latinos. She can really sing!! She has the vocal range of Mariah Carey. She has a lot potential in english and in spanish. She should a song with Aventura and Don Omar.

Man I am alomost crying that I was missing this really interesting conversation on hre guys. Vicious and vicious that is the only thing I can say. Guys, I was simply saying that when I met her I was expecting that crazy body that Dominican women often have, if you seen her videos she look the bomb. I was a little disapointed, not becuase I do not like her songs, but becuase she looks so hot on those videos that it is almost crazy. Yes Avnetura members hanged alot on 174th in the Bronx, there is not only the heights in NYC guys, open up you horizon for God sake. I am fairly disapointed with all of you, maybe one thay before I decide to get off the forum, I will let out my identity and invite aome of you with not atring attached to my job. Do not worry there is plenty of sitting spaces, I simply want to see all of your faces drop in embarasment. I was not impress, that is the true, I almost died when I saw shakira in person, she is crazy looking and sweet. Kate is doing very

well and hope she continues and break the barriers in the music industry. As far as wiclef jean, yes is by far the most famour world wide artist based on my experience. I have mentioned my favorite ever tono rosario and sergio vargas to my friends and they have no idea. You mention wiclef to people even from other country and they seems to know this guy. I personally love his "If i was preseident song" look it and listen to it, it is great and very true.

ny4life, do not be a failed frustrated Dominican. Dominicans like to take out their frustrations and failures on the Haitians, what an irony, one people discriminating against the other, but yet, they both suffer from the same discrimination in the U.S. Simply pathetic and low class. People like you simply make it more difficult to be a decent Dominincan. Remember that it is easy being Dominincan in a factory or the super market floor, but it is not the same in an area where people lives and investments are at stake. I often laugh at people when they face the person that has their future on his hands, not expecting to see what they see. My sucess in the U.S. can not be equated not even by collecting many like you ny4life. Instead of wasting your energy attacking other people, go to your local school and volunteer to help our children who are struggling and donate to the Dominican Institute, so it can continue running, also, the Aliansa take donations year around. I donate, cont

what you make in year to organizations that are designed to help our children become productive citizens in this foreing land. I made my point about Kat, I was expecting more from what I have seen on the videos. On the other hand, Shakira and Lopez look better in person than on videos surprisinly. I do not have to be Haitian to recognize good music, have you guys ever stop for one second to listen to his music. I think that he is extremely talented and ask any of you American friends ro what ever country they come from if they know Wiclef Jean. This is guy is like a legend and is well liked by people across the board. I have nevr had the privilege to see him in person, since his tix are hard to get and he does not do much concerts. You guys embarass me as a fellow Dominican, just to think that I have to sometimes defend people of your grade simply discuss me.
