New York.– The Story of Merengue, a performance of five legends of Dominican popular music, is scheduled for the United Palace Theater in Manhattan, New York, tonight October 4.

Joseito Mateo, Frank Cruz, Francis Santana, Vinicio Franco and Cuco Valoy, accompanied by the Super Orquestra San Jose conducted by Papa Molina, will also perform in Lawrence and Revere in Massachusetts, Providence in Rhode Island, Newark, Bronx and Queens.

According to some press sites, they would fill the space left by the original Buena Vista Social Club members, the late Cuban son stars Compay Segundo, Ibrahim Ferrer, Eliades Ochoa and Omara Portuondo, who rose to international fame late in life as part of Ry Cooder's Buena Vista Social Club in the late 1990s.

Buena Vista Social Club was a gimmick that worked one time ..thanks to a brilliant documentary film by Wim Wenders conceived by slide guitarist Ry Cooder in other words no brilliant film documentary ...no one will care except the people who went to the concert.....Buena Vista Social Club the film ended with an important concert by those lost musicians at Carnegie Hall....the film was nominated for the academy award best documentary in 2000 and CD was best selling latin music release of all time
