Happy New Year Lie-onel!
Castanos stated that 2008 was highlighted by a culture of smoke and mirrors that gave the false impression of constitutionality and transparency.

Corruption still worrisome
The ruling on the Sun Land case, the dismissal of members of the Chamber of Accounts and the pardons issued by President Leonel Fernandez have made a negative stain on institutionalism in the DR, says Servio Tulio Castanos Guzman, spokesman for the Foundation for Institutionalism and Justice (FINJUS). Castanos Guzman is quoted in El Caribe as saying the public has stood by with astonishment at a series of events which reflect the existence of a culture that threatens the quality of democracy and the climate of good governance. He added that in recent weeks the public has seen that strength of those institutions that defend democracy has weakened, and shows signs of getting weaker.

El Listin is just buttering up Lie-onenl to see if it can get a pardon for their owner the "honorable" Mr. Baez by February 27, 2009!
"Báez Figueroa was considered an aggressive deal-maker and helped build BANINTER into the country's number 2 private commercial bank, in the process amassing an empire of varied businesses. Among others, BANINTER controlled the country's largest media group, including Listín Diario, the oldest and leading newspaper; four television stations, a cable television company, and more than 70 radio stations."

Jander,
To paraphrase Inspector Callahan a little:
I know what you're thinking.
"Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as the truth is the most powerful weapon in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?
Well, do ya, punk?

Happy New Year everybody!
I hope this is the DR year of guadua angustifolio.
DR can grow a lot of this and stop importing hardwood, softwoods etc.
Someone told me that they chop down forests for charcoal near the Hatian border. This grows at 21 cm. per day and is ideal for charcoal!
This user-and environmental-friendly 'grass' is presently employed for a multitude of uses; Furniture & crafts work, raw construction material, panels (plywood, laminates, floors), paper industry, charcoal industry, pharmaceutical industries, musical instruments, houses, etc.
The reason for that is simple: no other natural resource possesses more: versatility, lightness, flexibility, endurance, hardness, strength, climatic adaptability, seismic-resistance, rapid growth, easy handling and visual warmth! To top this of, it is also the most cost effective building material that easily meets international phyto-sanitary and environmental requirements.

Drunkard Revival Kit
One gallon of pre-mixed Bloody Bulls
Two large bottles of Propel Sports Water
Multivitamins
A telephone
When horrifically hungover, the simple act of assembling a revival cocktail can seem a gargantuan task. Just glancing at a bottle of vodka might gag you. You can bypass both of these obstacles by premixing and refrigerating a jug of Bloody Bulls before you go to work on Friday. A Bloody Bull is nothing more than a Bloody Mary (the spicier the better) fortified with 2 oz. of beef bullion. If you want to makes things real easy on yourself, place a large thermos of the cocktail beside your bed before you go to sleep tues night. This will save you the inconvenience and indignity of shoving yourself vertical and taking the cure in the kitchen.

It is kinda ( not really ) sad that the USA is totally finished!
Advisors say China!
The inevitable shockwave will drive more investors out U.S. stocks and in into China where they will profit not only from internal economic growth but also from currency appreciation and domestic spending as well.
And the result will enrich those investors who understand that capital ALWAYS flows to the highest return in good times and bad…
…and are taking this opportunity to scoop up world-class assets at 20%, 30%, even 50% off their past highs in advance of the pending recovery.
That’s why it’s crucial that you add our top China stocks to your holdings now and why I’ve sent you this Special Alert.
If you can buy our top stocks today—while they’re still bargains—you could be looking at 20% to 40% gains in the next 12 months as the flight to safety lands squarely in China.
But also DR if president goes for self-sufficiency!

tS hopefully the US economy can live from Boeing's orders for spares for a number of years while new equipment is supplied by Russia and Airbus. The new 'Dreamliner' form Boeing is substantially built in Europe and Japan as US suppliers faild to bid.

I guess you truly dont get it. Who cares where it is being built, who owns the company and where do the profits go-the US of course. The US auto makers are doing just fine in the plants elsewhere in the world. Last I heard Ford was Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Troller & Volvo. GM Was Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, HUMMER, Oldsmobile,Opel, Pontiac, Saab,Saturn,Vauxhall. Chrysler is Dodge, Jeep. Paccar Inc. (trucks), Peterbuilt, Leyland, Kenworth, DAF. IF you notice on the following list there are no auto manufacturers owned by the UK and the leading brands such as Jaguar and Land Rover are owned by Tata of India, Rolls Royce and Mini are owned by BMW and even Aston Martin is not owned by the Brits. The auto industry in the US will do just fine.
