New York.– Dominican writer Junot Díaz and Pulitzer Prize winner in 2008 believes that
people should get back into the habit of reading because it puts the “reader
into contact with another human, another nervous system, another imagination.”
Junot Diaz, whose novel "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" is a story
of desire and tragedy among modern Dominicans, is a Dominican living in the United States. He joins the ranks of
William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller,
Saul Bellow, John Steinbeck, Sam Shepard, Norman Mailer, and a host of
legends awarded the Pulitzer prize.

LOL. Good one goulet. It would be awesome if reading was promoted as much as baseball in DR. But it's always more fun to seek the easy way out of poverty.

A shame that foreigners come on here and talk so much crap and have no idea what they are talking about. Dominicans are not a society of sports crazed dummys who only know about baseball. Your comments offend me and proves further that americans dont know anything about any country except from what they see on t.v and hear say. Because thats all the information they need,....its always a much easier way out of the libary.

MM you have probably recently been made aware of Mr. Diaz and I would venture you have no idea of the contents of his book or it would be an extreme long shot that you would have read it....so I doubt you can realize the impact it will have on future generations of Dominicans....so stay in the Dark and curse the Light.....also you should go back to the LIBARY you spoke about and learn your own history

goulet how dare you make those comments. You are implying that dominicans don't know how to read and that its all about sports! Take a look around you and realize that the united states has high illeteracy rate and you just proved how ignorant americans are. If you put two teenagers to debate one from us and one from DR, the dominican would kick his butt. Please get a life and read a book.

Colonial oh so so sorry I did not know you had literary heroes like William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Saul Bellow, John Steinbeck, Sam Shepard, Norman Mailer,in the DR sorry how could I be so wrong to think Pelota is over emphasized ..here Well we will just have to return all those Nobels and Pulitzers...................what are you NUTS...this has nothing to do with a comparison to anything..this is setting an example ....with something other than steroid using athletes .....thank you very much....yes to many Dominicans dont know how to read and think it is all about baseball and reggaetton ....I did take a good look around me I have lived in the DR a long time

HAHAHHAHHAA!! First of all, you do not need to wish me good luck in my new country because I have been living in the US since I was 6 years old. I have a graduate degree and a professional career. I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful children, ok. Living the american dream with a big dominican heart. And when I do go to vacation in DR its to the top resorts and I pay for my relatives to stay and enjoy the resort life with me. So your last comment AGAIN shows how ignorant you are!! No good luck to you and learn how to spell before you start commenting on the education of another.

I do know and understand the immigrant experience ....I have lived yes lived in 6 different countries and I am planning to live in one more that I have my eye on....I am a granfather and have adopted two beautiful children here In the DR.....now if you think Dominicans are better educated and are not baseball obsessed you are welcome to your opinion I doubt you will find many who share it....grad school or otherwise and please enjoy your vacation at the new Four Seasons or the Ritz Carelton next time you visit...I will be on one of their courses hitting the old ball...My original comment you have obviously totally misunderstood

What the heck are you talking about. You are the one saying that dominicans are baseball obsessed and Im the one saying that its not all about baseball, dominicans are multi-talented(do some research and you'll be amazed on all the accomplishments). Seriously you are annoying me. You are confused and no I don't even like baseball and can't stand to watch it so go ahead and say something sarcastic about that. Like I said before....get a life and by the way since you seem to live country to country it sounds like you're a fleeing felon.... I represent them, just in case.
From: Puerto Rico, Luquillo ,Playa Azul
yes Iam talking about most Dominicans they dont know how to read and are baseball obsessed and if I was under arraignment you would be the last attorney I would call based on your feeble argument in this case....stick to slip and fall cases or you may be disbarred for impersonating a lawyer....you keep beating the same dead horse hoping I will settle....Wrong again

Also colonial judging by the planeloads of losers who are being returned in custody I hope you got their money up front
