Santo Domingo.– Dominican artist, designer, and composer Octavio
Rodriguez, inaugurated his third exhibition in the Dominican Republic in honor
of Cuban singer and songwriter Silvio Rodriguez.
The opening ceremony was held at the Casa de Teatro's Wilfredo Garcia Hall in
the Dominican city of Santiago in the presence of Silvio's fans and famous
artists, the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s website reports.
The Casa de Teatro
or “Theater House” has always contributed to the development of
artists. Silvio Rodriguez has been a friend of that institution, where
he's warmly welcomed and meets with his friends and followers.
Octavio
Rodriguez invited the president of the Association of Santiago Composers,
singer-songwriter Juan Carlos Vargas, to the house’s café-theater, where accompanied by his guitar he interpreted Silvio’s five most popular songs in
the Dominican Republic over the last years.
An acknowledgement was made of the work of
Dominican artists who have recorded some of Silvio's songs, such as Sonia
Silvestre and Sergio Vargas, and to those who have ennobled Dominican music,
like Juan Luis Guerra.
The exhibition will be open to the public until
August 30. The exhibitor plans to later take it to Cuba and Spain.

Silvio has composed over 1,400 songs, some of which are so beautiful, that he and his music attract audiences large enough to pack football stadiums throughout Latin America.
The murderous US regime and the lying US capitalist press ... both gleefully wallow in over 1,000,000 dead bodies in Iraq ... repressively censors Silvio and his massive and magnificent body of work, excluding, as far as possible, both the man and his work from the USA and its saturated bourgeois culture.

US artists, especially Cuban Americans, often steal Silvio's songs and, of course, never acknowledge their creative source who has sworn permanent allegiance to the red flag of proletariat.
If US artists paid royalties to which Silvio is entitled, the repressive and genocidal US regime would charge US artists with a violation of the US blockade of Cuba, throw US artists into prison up to 10 years and fine them up to $ 250,000.
If 1976, Silvio took his songs and his guitar to Angola. Once there, he picked up an AK-47 ... an instrument with which Silvio is as skillful as with the guitar ... and fought the foul racist South African regime, backed by US imperialists and their genocidal regime in Washington.
The racists had invaded Angola and Angolan people asked the socialist workers of Cuba for assistance. The Angolans, the Cubans, and, of course, Silvio the ran the South African racists with their tails flying behind them.
US imperialists, led G. Ford, were furious.

Tegucigalpa, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage met in Tegucigalpa with Cuban and Cuban-educated physicians, teachers and other experts who currently work in Honduras.
Carlos Lage spoke of the Cuban people's esteem for the labor of Cuban internationalists who currently work in over 90 ... [almost all impoverished capitalist] ... countries of the world.
In almost 10 years in Honduras after Hurricane Mitch, the Cuban medical brigade has offered 17 million consultations, over 466,000 surgical operations and saved 236,000 lives, Cuban VP Lage stated.
(The market value ... but not the cost ... of Cuban foreign aid to 90 mostly impoverished capitalist countries of the world runs into billions of dollars.)
Honduras has also benefited from Mission Miracle, a Venezuelan-Cuban initiative started in 2004, that has restored the eyesight, by surgeries and other procedures, of more than 1.2 million blind people in Latin America/Caribbean.

Speaking with stunning eloquence and valor, Honduran President Manuel Zelaya said today:
“Honduras has inherited sufficient independence and sovereignty from our national heroes, as well as the daily efforts of many decades, to be able to say to the whole world that we are not asking for permission from imperialism to join the ALBA (Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas), out of patriotic and pro-Latin American sentiments. We are doing so armed with ideas of liberty.”
Honduran President Manuel Zelaya affirmed this to a large representation of his people who began to arrive from the country’s 18 departments in the early hours of the morning and filled the Presidential House esplanade.
The ceremony for Honduras’ entry into the ALBA bloc was attended by representatives of Dominica, a full ALBA member; Ecuador, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic; and other countries in the region.
( Also on hand were Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega, and Evo Morales.)
