Atlanta.– Health officials say the number of people sickened in a national salmonella outbreak involving peanut butter has grown to 485 cases.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday the number has been inching up as lab tests confirm that new cases have the same genetic fingerprint as the outbreak strain.
The illnesses have been reported in 43 states and Canada, and may have contributed to the deaths of six people. The Food and Drug Administration has traced the outbreak to a Georgia plant owned by Peanut Corp. of America, which makes peanut butter and peanut paste.
The government says consumers should avoid cookies, cakes and other foods containing peanut butter pending the results of the investigation. Peanut butter sold in jars to consumers is not included.

Well, if McLame & Palin were in the White House now then they would say that these industries need to be self-regulated (just like the Banking Industry). Because we are tired of Big Gov. Fortunately, Sarah Palin is NOT in the White House. Thank God! Well, she had already started her 2012 Prez election bid even before McLame lost. Who says politicians do not have "character & integrity"?
We may have to wait until 2016, in order to see just how much & to what degree a Republican can ruin the US economy.
Over the past 8 years, it would be interesting to see how many Bush supporters actually lost their jobs, had their homes foreclosed on, went bankrupt via lost wealth on Wall St and with Made-off BUT yet STILL supported McLame?
This reminds me of true-life analogy of a very beautiful lady who divorced her husband in order to get together with a Chulo who treats her like a street punta.
Some just don't get it! But most Americans R not stupid!
