Santo Domingo.– Acclaimed Dominican performer and Billboard ranked merengue star Hector Acosta will present his "Simplemente... El Torito" show tonight at the Teatro La Fiesta of the Hotel Jaragua.

Héctor Acosta, first introduced to the tropical music world as vocalist for the famous Toros Band, first found his voice in church. As a member of the choir at San Antonio de Paula Church, Acosta discovered amid the ritual and incense his love for song.

In 1982, having sung for years only inside the walls of the church, Acosta learned of a singing competition sponsored by Radio Novel. He secretly entered the contest against his father’s wishes and took first place, proving both his talent and determination to become a singer.

In 1989, the popular Rosario Brothers came to perform in Bonao and Acosta was introduced to Gerardo Diaz. Diaz was so impressed with Acosta’s performance and improvisational ability that he immediately proposed forming a new band with Acosta as lead vocalist. Diaz, known as ‘El Toro’ (Bull) named the group Los Toros (The Bulls) and Acosta soon acquired the nickname ‘El Torito’ (Little Bull).

Hector Acosta stayed with Los Toros band for 15 years. In 2006, Acosta left the group to form his own orchestra. His debut album, Sigo Siendo Yo, was released that same year and includes the hit singles “Me Voy” and “Primavera Azul.” Mitad, Mitad was released in 2008 followed by Simplemente... El Torito in 2009.

I went to one of the best concert here in Houston. El Bachatazo 2009 con Anthony Santos y El Torito. I never though i see them both together but it was very good. I hope Alex Bueno makes a come back becomes he is one of a kind like el torito is.

I think alex will. he still has alot of fans... but right now el torito is on top. people from all countries know his songs by heart. it was full.... I hope more Dominican artists start touring in other cities that are outside of the north east coast...
All we get here in Chicago is Aventura, Xtreme, monchy Alexandra. But there has been some progress, El Torito, raffy burgos, and la india candela have come to Chicago. We need more to come...
To Dominican artists....... Dominicans do live outside the east coast. You will sell outanywhere as long as you promote it the right way. El torito had the place so full that you could not even dance

i know one of the guys that brings the Dominican artists here and he has been doing very good most of the well known and some old well know have been here so i can't complain they are bringing everybody here. Asta Teodoro Reyes vino aqui. They are starting to bring comedians too here. It's working out very good for them because everything is either sold out or almost. I didn't know that Mexican and south american liked Bachata so much wow is everywhere here and they dance pretty good too to my surprise.

yes, they do love bachata. I don't know why they make it so difficult. there are tons of dominicans in this area. are there many dominican places down in texas? There are a few places to eat and one dominican club/grill here.
I have noticed that alot of Dominican businesses fail here... I think that many have bad service and there is so much restaurant competition in Chicago that you have to treat the customer right.... Why is the waiter talking on the cell phone? Why is the cook enamorando la chica en el bar? Stupid stuff like that is why Dominican places go down
