Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez and the First lady Margarita Cedeño Wednesday night headed the inaugural of the 3rd Dominican Global Cinema Festival in the National Theater, where a special recognition was bestowed on the actor Omar Sharif.

Fernandez told reporters that the government takes precise steps to consolidate the country’s film industry and revealed that a foreign film company will spend US$100 million in a production in the Dominican Republic next year, which in his view create many jobs and invigorate the economy.

Among the personalities attending the event were Dominican actor-producer Manny Perez, the also Dominican Juan Fernandez, and Vin Diesel, of the U.S.
