Santo Domingo.- Homegrown Hollywood movie star and producer Manny Perez will bring his latest film to the country\s most coveted venue, as part of the 3rd Global Film Festival inaugurated by president Loenel Fernandez on Monday with a special tribute to Omar Sharif.

Perez, born in the mountain town Baitoa, Santiago province, has produced films such as ‘Washington Heights’ and costarred in ‘El Cantante’, based on the life of late salsa great Hector Lavoe.

His latest production, ‘La Soga’ will be featured starting tomorrow Saturday in the National Theatre, where he expects a throng of his townspeople to support his effort, which he affirms is based on the reality of his country’s underworld.

Hats off to you Perez -- much continued success. I love this whole Cibao resilience thing because in my own case, although yo anduve en burro until I was 10, I've now had the great priviledge of working alongside the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces -- Admiral Mike Mullen. Talk about one degree of separation -- from the Cibao, that is. I post this not for my own accolades since none of you know me nor have to give a damm -- but more to highlight que no todos somos contrabanditas.

Good for you Manny Perez! He was excellent in "Washington Heights" and in his guest starring role "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" a couple of years ago. I wish him continued success and an Oscar. You deserve it Manny. Buena Suerte.!
