Are we being appreciative or respectful of this young girl's accomplishments, her slight upward push of the country? Probably not. We'd rather dwell on those old problems, particularly those which we cannot solve.

Look, we are not going to have a decent and honest government in DR in forseeable future; in fact, we probably never had one in our entire history!

Metro is here to stay, subsidies or not, and the new extension is going to be built no matter what we say here in DT.

Electricity problem is not going to be solved in my lifetime or that of my offsprings, because that would require a cultural revolution and a hyper-infusion of integrity into the entire Dominican fabric. Dominicans will always steal electricity, because they feel it's their right to do so.

The police force is always going to be corrupt, no matter income, because they were pre-programmed at birth to do so.

Let's face it, regrettably, we are just corrupt to the core.

Dr. Strangelove,

With the respect and admiration I have for you, I must take issue with your use of the word "always" with regard to illegal activity on the part of our people.

Although not offered as an excuse, desperate people do desperate things and that is not unique to us or any other segment of humanity, nor is illegality genetically ingrained.

So I never say never or in this case “always,” as well!

Josean,

I do not disagree with you in principle, since I have stated in past postings that is possible to overcome these issues-but only after effecting an obligatory paradigm shift in our society. We must do that in order to occupy the position in the world that, as a nation, we so much desire.

In our case, change must come from within, and only we are empowered to effect it. All the money at Fort Knox won't fix it and it would only make it worse. Because with all that money, only our apparent affluence would change, but we would still remain corrupt-rich corrupt people. Would that be really better? I think not.

We much teach integrity and good citizenship to the next generation, then and only then, would we have chance to overcome ingrained corruption in every aspect of our society, which keeps us shackled and firmly anchored to present way of life; however, sadly, it might take us 2-3 generations.

BTW, thanks for kind comments.
