Santo Domingo.– Two of the world’s leading salsa performers, Cheo Feliciano and Ismael Miranda, will be on stage at Teatro La Fiesta of the Hotel Jaragua on 15 August.
Beside salsa, boleros and son music will be part of the show, a production of Buena Vista Entertainment and Corporacion EM. Feliciano and Miranda will be accompanied by Maestro Rafael Labasta and his Orchestra.
Feliciano was raised and educated in Ponce, a city located in the southern part of Puerto Rico. In 1952, Feliciano moved with his family to New York City and settled down in Spanish Harlem. Here he auditioned as a percussionist in the "Ciro Rimac's Review" band - giving him his first professional musical job. Bandleader Tito Rodríguez, heard Feliciano play and offered him a job in his orchestra; this he accepted but after playing for some time with Tito, he left the band to play the conga for Luis Cruz.
Miranda was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico, and grew up in New York City. As a child he always wanted to be a musician. His musical inclination led him to form two different juvenile groups, "The 4J's and Little Junior" and "The Class Mates" by the time he was eleven years old. He sang and played the conga for the group and they were good enough to appear on Jerry Lewis' Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. Miranda also grew up and played in his first bands with Jazz percussionist Orlando "Q" Rodriguez and piano player Mark Diamond.
