Santo Domingo.- The World Tourism Organization (WTO) dismissed its environment consultant, the Spaniard Francesc Giro, allegedly for writing an article in which he warned that the Dominican Republic would be making a grave mistake by building large infrastructures in Bahia de las Aguilas, which would degrade this park.

Giro himself denounced his dismissal and said that he does not regret the warning and that, as of now, he will try to divulge the situation of hotel promoters from Spain and France in the Dominican Republic.

“As a consequence of my article on the Jaragua National Park, the WTO has decided to do without my services from now on and has eliminated my curriculum from its database.  They will also inform the UNDP of this decision,” said Giro on a letter sent archeologist Adolfo Lopez.

In his correspondence to Lopez, Giro stated that he trusts that his position contrary to building infrastructures within the Jaragua Park was worthwhile, and that he would possibly make future references to this matter.

Giro was the consultant that visited the country last year, upon request by the Tourism Ministry, to elaborate a report on the propriety of constructing hotels in Bahia de las Aguilas.

It is the habit of Governments and their appendages to ignore and/or eliminate those elements which are contrary to their policies (whether well-founded or corrupt in nature).
This is an outstanding example of the exercise of that habit.
Eliminate the focus of contrary opposition and proceed with the policy, regardless of the long term consquences of the policy.
